Teachers, Students & Facebook

Matthews K. (2012, April 18th).  School Social Media Policies: Should Teachers And Students Be Facebook Friends? HuffPost Education;  The Internet Newspaper

Karen Matthews brings up huge matter in her article. Do you think teachers and students should be allowed to be friends on Facebook? While schools in some states have set policies for teachers engaging with students on social sites, other states ban doing so. With so many lawsuits filed under teachers making inappropriate comments on a student's Facebook pages teachers should know their boundaries when "friending" a student on Facebook. David Roush, a media communications and television production teacher at a Bronx high school, says, "Email and letters sent home are becoming a dinosaur," The old methods of engaging our students and our parents are starting to die." (2012) Roush believes that Facebook or other social network sites could be used for educational purposes if used appropriately.
