Google+ has just released their SMS feature that allow users receive notifications through their phones. When you sign up for a Google+ account it will ask for a phone number so you are able to receive these notifications. Why is this an important feature you ask? Though Google+ may have over millions or billions of users, not all users will have Internet access in their own home, however, more users are likely to have a phone. So with this new feature, users are able to receive and still interact with their account through their mobile devices. Facebook and Instagram has also released this great feature to their users. Lalitesh Katragadda, a Google+ employee, in India states, "There are about 120 million people who are using Internet in India today whereas the number of cell phone users is more than 600 million. We want to expand the reach to the 600 million mobile phone users many of who may not have access to internet,” . I would say that the SMS feature is a smart tool for social media sites to reach out to there users.
